Boot and Install Windows 10 from a Downloaded ISO File using Rufus
In this guide, we will walk you through the step-by-step process of booting and installing Windows 10 from a downloaded ISO file using Rufus. This method allows you to create a bootable USB drive with your desired operating system, in this case, Windows 10.
What You Need:
- A PC with an internet connection
- Rufus (download from the official website)
- A valid USB drive with enough space for Windows 10 installation
Step-by-Step Instructions:
- Download and Install Rufus: If you haven’t already, download Rufus from the official website. Follow the instructions to install it on your PC.
- Launch Rufus: Once installed, launch Rufus by searching for it in the start menu or opening its icon.
- Select the USB Drive: Select the valid USB drive that you want to use as a bootable device. You can choose any free space available on the drive.
- Set the Boot Order: In the Rufus interface, click on the “Boot” tab and then select your USB drive from the list of devices. Click “Set New Boot Order” to save your changes.
- Select the ISO File: Navigate to the location of your downloaded Windows 10 ISO file. Select the ISO file from the list of available files. Make sure the ISO file is in the correct format (ISO file 4) and that it’s not encrypted or compressed.
- Create a Bootable Media: Click “Create” button to start the process of creating a bootable media. Rufus will scan your USB drive for any existing partitions, and then create a new partition with enough space for Windows 10 installation (at least 20GB).
- Wait for the Installation Process: Once Rufus has created the new partition, it will begin the installation process. This may take several hours depending on your PC’s specifications.
- Install Windows 10: After the installation process completes, you’ll be prompted to set up your computer as a new installation. Follow the prompts to complete the setup process.
- Finish Installation and Reboot: Once the installation is complete, you can reboot your PC and enjoy your newly installed Windows 10 operating system.
Tips and Precautions:
- Make sure to use a USB drive with enough space for Windows 10 installation.
- Avoid using any external devices like hard drives or CD/DVDs as bootable media.
- Be cautious when using Rufus, as it can potentially harm your PC if used incorrectly.
- Keep in mind that Rufus is not intended for installing multiple operating systems on a single device.
